The launch event and inaugural session of the WAFI2025 Global AgriFood Innovation Roadshow, organized by the World AgriFood Innovation Conference (WAFI), were successfully held at the International Conference Center of China Agricultural University. Attendees included Li Peng, Director of the Pinggu National Science Park Administrative Committee, and Wang Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Jingwa Center. Under the theme “Innovation Acceleration, Resilient Future,” the hybrid event (offline roadshows + online livestreaming) showcased pioneering projects in agrifood technology, attracting industry experts, investors, and media representatives.

Building a Global Platform for Innovation
Fu Wenge, Director of the MBA Education Center at China Agricultural University and Secretary-General of the WAFI Advisory Committee, emphasized that the roadshow aims to create a perpetual platform for WAFI, fostering industry-academia collaboration and integrated innovation. The initiative seeks global submissions in four key sectors: smart agriculture, food and health, sustainable agrifood, and biotechnology. Projects will be evaluated based on “originality, technology advancement, market potential, and sustainability alignment,” with awards presented at the WAFI2025 Conference (October 12-14). Fu extended an open invitation to universities, research institutions, enterprises, and innovators worldwide to participate in advancing agrifood resilience.
Five industry leaders unveiled groundbreaking innovations:

Developed 22 soil health evaluation indices across physical, chemical, and biological domains. Supported by 100+ soil health centers nationwide, the platform leverages digital soil sampling and AI diagnostics, compiling 500,000 soil datasets. Collaborating with 16 top institutions, including China Agricultural University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, its “Soil Health Academy” has trained over 1,000 professionals, enhancing low-yield farmland productivity and specialty crop soil management.

Nxin’s Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Digital Intelligence Ecosystem Platform
Launched PigAIGC, the world’s first AI model for swine farming, replacing traditional practices with algorithm-driven management. Integrated IoT and fintech solutions serve feed producers, livestock enterprises, and poultry farms. Proprietary hardware like AI Cloud Boxes and Smart Inventory Estimators have cut labor costs by 20%, while its closed-loop trading system with the National Swine Market boosts operational efficiency.

Shunxin Big Data’s AI-Driven Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) System Solution
Utilized gene recombination to synthesize recombinant Factor C (rFC), slashing endotoxin detection time to 20 minutes (70% cost reduction). AI-enabled antimicrobial peptide alternatives reduced reliance on natural horseshoe crab blood, lowering mortality rates by 30%. Certified by the Ministry of Science and Technology (No. 9112025Y015).

Shenzhen Shuying’s FPF Future Pig Farm’s AI-powered Intelligent Pig Farming System
Introduced the “Estrus Detection Assistant” with 90% accuracy and 92% conception rates, reducing non-productive days by 30%. The cloud-edge integrated system, featuring environmental monitoring and precision feeding, is listed in Guangdong’s AI Product Catalog and powers the China-ASEAN Swine Innovation Alliance.

Huayu Aobo’s New Intelligent Soil Three-Dimensional Cultivation System
Replaced pesticides with 60-80°C thermal sterilization and probiotic-organic fertilizers to achieve zero-chemical cultivation. Its patented vertical farming walls, deployed across 40,000 m² of greenhouses in Pinggu, enhance resource efficiency by 40%, with annual adoption in five national facilities.
Expert Insights and Future Vision

Judges including Mao Changqing (Co-Director of CAU’s Innovation Center), Ian Lahiffe (Jing Management Agritech), and Gu Ming (Xunzheng Investment) evaluated projects on four aspects - originality, technology advancement, market potential and sustainability alignment. Fu Wenge highlighted the roadshow’s role in bridging global agritech solutions with industry needs, accelerating the transformation of R&D into scalable applications.

Looking Ahead
As a prelude to WAFI2025—one of the world’s top three agrifood events—the conference will take place in Beijing’s Pinggu District (October 12-14, 2025), followed by a joint session with CAU’s 120th-anniversary celebrations in Haidian. Selected projects will join the “WAFI Global Agri-Food Innovation Portfolio”, gaining priority access to international funding, research resources, and cross-border expansion support, driving resilient upgrades across the global food supply chain.
